Pilates is a system of exercises that helps you find strength, balance and health in your body – regardless of your age or physical condition. You will learn to move with more awareness and intention, in proper alignment and pain free.
Pilates is ideal for all levels of fitness. Depending on your individual needs, pilates can be very rehabilitative or it can be a serious, strenuous workout! That’s the beauty of the method – it meets you right where you need to be!
I was introduced to pilates in 2000. At that time, I had been teaching group exercise and found pilates to be a great way to balance out my other workouts. As I got older, I found that pilates helped me with the imbalances in my body that had been causing pain over the years.
I completed my Matwork certification from Powerhouse Pilates in 2002, then went on to complete two comprehensive certifications: Turning Point Studios in 2006 (450 hours) and The Pilates Center in 2010 (950 hours). I earned my national certification NCPT in 2012. In 2014, I completed a 200 hour yoga certification from YogaWorks. In 2021, I completed the Classical Pilates Progression Series with Karen Frischmann, a year-long advanced program for teachers to deepen their knowledge and teaching skills. Always a student, I continue to study with Karen Frischmann, as well as other master teachers.
I have extensive experience with many issues and injuries, including back pain, scoliosis, hip replacements, knee replacements, shoulder injuries and foot injuries. I tore my rotator cuff in 2014 and used pilates to successfully rehab my shoulder after surgery. I am known for my keen eye to detail, with specific attention to proper alignment and body mechanics. My main goal is to help my students create health in their bodies – whether to relieve pain or become stronger for their active and everyday lives.
After teaching in gyms and studios in Northern California for 19 years, my family and I moved to the Lake Norman area of Charlotte, North Carolina in 2021. I am currently teaching online, and just a few private lessons in my home studio in Davidson.

ONLINE LESSONS
All you need is a computer/device with a camera, an internet connection and a Zoom account!
If you have never done online lessons, surprisingly, it works really well! It’s amazing how much I can see over a computer screen. This is not like a YouTube video where I am working out and you just follow along. This is an intense lesson where I watch and see everything you do. It is just like we are in person at the studio! You don’t need any equipment to start – a carpeted floor will suffice. But as you progress, you may want to add some props, such as a mat, dynaband, yoga strap, yoga blocks, magic circle, foam roller, balls of different sizes. Some students have pilates apparatus, such as a reformer or a wunda chair. I can work with whatever you have (or don’t have).
Reap the benefits of regular pilates workouts under my skillful eye - whether you live across the street or across the country – all in the comfort of your own home!
Karen was my first pilates teacher and because of her, I decided to become a pilates teacher myself. She is a wealth of information and her passion for classical pilates comes through in her teaching. She especially knows how to work with people who have injuries or imbalances. She is my go-to resource when I have a student who has an injury that I am not familiar with. I consider her my mentor, and I continue to learn from her every time I see her.
Michele, pilates teacher and student since 2002
